Conan Exiles Legacy of the Giant-Kings Part Two (6 October): Rifts, Four New Spells and the Mi-Go

Legacy of the Giant-Kings Part Two lands in Conan Exiles Enhanced on 6 October with rifts in enemy camps, four new sorcery spells and the Mi-Go. What's in it, what changed since 2.2.0, and what your server needs to do.

Legacy of the Giant-Kings Part Two lands in Conan Exiles Enhanced on 6 October. It adds rifts inside existing enemy camps that lead to arena fights, four new sorcery spells, and the return of the Mi-Go with a Mi-Go mini world boss, across both the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah. It's free, and on the day your server needs the usual: a backup, the game update, and a check of your mods once it's back up.

What's in the update

Part Two is the second of four free updates in the Legacy of the Giant-Kings story arc. Part One arrived on 21 July and sent players beneath the Unnamed City into the Cyclopean Halls, and Part Two follows on from there: "In the wake of the events surrounding Akhamet and the Cyclopean Halls, mysterious tears have begun to spread."

Rifts will start appearing across the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah, and you find them inside enemy camps that are already on the map. Step through one and you're in a hostile arena "beyond reality".

  • You choose the fight. Funcom's wording is "Choose your challenge carefully, overcome the forces waiting on the other side".
  • Rewards: "new materials and rewards for those strong enough to survive".
  • The rift materials are also what the new spells cost (below).

Funcom hasn't said how many rifts there are, how often they open, or whether a cleared rift comes back.

Four new sorcery spells

Part Two adds four spells to Sorcery, and they cost rift materials: you learn them "with materials found through rift encounters, then upgrade a new tome to deepen your mastery of the arcane." Funcom hasn't named them yet, only described them:

  • A ward: "Call upon a defensive ward to help protect yourself against danger."
  • Void control: "Control the battlefield and hinder your enemies with the power of the Void."
  • Corrupting magic that hits "those caught within its reach".
  • Swift casting: "Ready your magic for swift casting when every moment matters."

The Mi-Go return

Funcom's 2020 Isle of Siptah reveal listed "swarming Mi-go" among the "horrors from the outer void" drawn in by the island's Maelstrom storm. Now they come back through the rifts. Funcom's post says to "Prepare to face Mi-Go enemies, including a formidable Mi-Go mini world boss."

Beating them earns themed rewards. Funcom also says players may "perhaps even add a Mi-Go thrall or pet to their settlement". That "perhaps" is Funcom's own, so don't promise your players a Mi-Go pet until the patch notes confirm it.

Since 2.2.0

Part Two will be the first content update since patch 2.2.0 (15 September), which moved Conan Exiles Enhanced to Unreal Engine 5.8.2 and switched dedicated servers to Iris, Epic's newer networking layer. If your server hasn't been updated since mid-September, the Part Two update brings all of this with it.

  • Less lag on busy servers. Funcom: "So far we've seen servers experience roughly half the lag they did before Iris was enabled." They also say "Iris doesn't remove all server performance limitations, given the freedom players have to build at scale."
  • Every mod needed rebuilding. 2.2.0 "forced a recook on all mods" because of engine changes, so mods showed as out of date until their authors republished them. A mod that hasn't been updated since 15 September is worth a second look.
  • Two hotfixes followed. The 17 September one "Fixed several server crash issues" and fixed base-game asset overrides not loading from cooked mods. Hotfix 2.2.2 on 24 September "Fixed crash that could occur on boot for servers with stale files from before the 2.2.0 update."
  • Joining a modded server is quicker: the check that compares a player's mods with the server's "is now calculated in a much faster way."

What your server needs to do

  1. On 6 October, take a backup before you update. On a self-hosted server, copy the whole ConanSandbox\Saved folder: the world database and your settings live there.
  2. Update the server once Funcom's build is out. Players get the new version through Steam.
  3. Start the server and check your mods before your players join. Funcom hasn't said whether Part Two needs mods rebuilt, but 2.2.0 did, three weeks ago.

Self-hosting? The dedicated server is Steam app 443030:

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 443030 validate +quit

Tip: On a LOW.MS server, Create backup on the Backups tab takes the backup, and the Game updates card on the Overview tab installs the new build (the server stops and restarts while it runs). Check for updates on the Mods tab shows which of your mods have new versions. All three are in the control panel.

What's coming next

  • 6 October: Part Two. Funcom hasn't given a time. Part One and patch 2.2.0 were both announced on Steam at about 3pm UK time (14:00 UTC).
  • October: news on Conan Exiles Enhanced for consoles, which is still PC only. Funcom's September update says "October is right around the corner and more will be revealed then." There's no date yet.
  • Parts Three and Four: no dates. Funcom's June announcement says the arc will "unfold across four parts during the coming months".
  • The next Public Beta: the test servers are offline, and Funcom says they'll come back "once the next update is ready to be tested". No public beta for Part Two had been announced when this was written.

FAQ

Do players need to buy anything?

No, Part Two is free: Funcom announced Legacy of the Giant-Kings as "four free updates". The Isle of Siptah half of the map is still DLC, though. Funcom's own words: "Access to the Isle of Siptah still requires ownership of the Isle of Siptah DLC."

What version number is Part Two?

Funcom hadn't said when this was written. The live build before it was hotfix 2.2.2, released on 24 September.

Does Part Two wipe my server?

Nothing Funcom has posted mentions a wipe. The rifts open inside enemy camps that already exist, and the Mi-Go come through them.

My server excludes one region of the map. Does it still get rifts?

Rifts appear in both the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah. If you've set Excluded Regions on the Manage tab, players can only reach the rifts in the region you've kept.

Will a server on the Legacy (UE4) branch get Part Two?

No. When Enhanced launched, Funcom said the Legacy version on PC "will not receive additional updates". Part Two is for Conan Exiles Enhanced only.

Will Part Two break my mods?

There's no word from Funcom on that yet. Check the Mods tab after the first start, and look at the mod's Workshop page if one fails to load.
