On most hosts, changing what kind of Minecraft server you run means wiping it and starting again. If you want to move a Paper server to Fabric, or try a modpack your friends keep talking about, you normally either open a support ticket or do it all by hand over FTP.
On LOW.MS you can do both from the panel, and your world stays where it is.
Switch server type in two clicks
We support five server types:
- Paper, for plugins and the best performance out of the box
- Vanilla, plain Minecraft as Mojang ships it
- Fabric, lightweight and popular for performance mods
- NeoForge, where most new modpacks are built
- Forge, for older modpacks
How it works
- Open Settings in the panel.
- Pick a new type under Server type.
- We take a backup first.
- We install the new type and start your server back up.
Your world is kept. Your mods and plugins are cleared, because Paper plugins won't run on Fabric and Fabric mods won't run on Paper. The panel warns you about this before anything happens, so you always know what to expect.
Install a modpack from the panel
Open the Mods page and go to the Modpacks tab. You can search packs from Modrinth and CurseForge by name, choose a version and click install.
How it works
Each pack needs a particular loader and Minecraft version, and we set both for you. If a pack needs NeoForge on 1.21.1, that's what your server ends up running. There are no installer jars to deal with and no hunting for the right Forge build.
Once a pack is installed, you can manage it from the same tab:
- Update the pack to a newer version.
- Remove the pack, which takes you back to the server type you had before.
Some CurseForge authors don't allow their packs to be downloaded by third parties. Those packs still show up in your search, and the panel tells you why they can't be installed instead of just failing.
Only mods that will actually work
When you browse mods, the panel hides the ones that don't work with your server type. For example, a Fabric-only mod won't appear on a Paper server.
You can still show them if you want to look. They're marked with what they need, such as Needs Fabric, so you can see at a glance why a mod isn't suitable for your current setup.
You can also click Check for updates at any time instead of waiting for the next automatic check.
Players, without console commands
The Players tab shows who's online. From there you can kick, ban, op and whitelist players with a click, without typing console commands.
Turn on Whitelist in Settings and you can manage the list from the same tab.
A tip before you switch
Your world survives a switch, but modded blocks and items don't survive a switch to a type without those mods. If you're moving a modded world back to Paper or Vanilla, keep the backup we take for you in case you change your mind.
FAQ
Will I lose my world if I change server type?
No. Your world is kept when you switch. We also take a backup before the change.
What happens to my mods and plugins when I switch?
They're cleared, because mods and plugins built for one server type won't run on another. The panel warns you before anything happens.
Where can I install modpacks from?
You can search and install packs from Modrinth and CurseForge in the Modpacks tab on the Mods page.
Do I need to set the loader and Minecraft version myself?
No. We set both to match what the pack needs.
Why can't I install a particular CurseForge pack?
Some CurseForge authors don't allow third parties to download their packs. The panel shows you when that's the reason.
What happens if I remove a modpack?
Your server goes back to the server type you had before you installed it.
Does this cost extra?
No. Every Minecraft server comes with all of this at no extra cost.
Open your server in the panel to try it.
