Stormworks supports up to 32 players on a dedicated server. How many you'll want in practice depends on what your group does — building sessions handle larger groups fine, but physics-heavy rescue operations with lots of active vehicles run best with smaller groups. You can adjust the max_players setting in your server_config.xml any time.

Stormworks processes its physics simulation server-side, which makes CPU performance more important than it is for most other games. Every engine, propeller, and fluid system on every active vehicle is calculated by the server. That's why we run Stormworks on high-performance AMD Ryzen hardware — it makes a real difference to how smooth the experience feels, especially when multiple complex vehicles are active at once.

Yes — you can add Workshop vehicles, missions, and addons to your server through the server_config.xml file. Players connecting to your server should subscribe to the same Workshop items for the best experience. Check our server configuration guide in the knowledgebase for the details on setting this up.

From the main menu, go to Multiplayer and choose Join by IP. Enter the IP address and port shown in your LOW.MS control panel. If the server has a password, you'll be prompted for it. Your server will also appear in the in-game server browser if it's set to public.

Yes. Stormworks has built-in admin commands for managing your server — you can kick or ban players, force saves, and manage admin permissions. Commands are entered in the in-game chat using the ? prefix (for example, ?kick followed by the player's peer ID). You'll need to be authenticated as an admin first using the ?add_auth command.

Almost always, it's vehicle complexity. A single vehicle with hundreds of components generates a lot of physics calculations, and that load is all on the server's CPU. If things get sluggish, try removing complex or abandoned vehicles from the world and restarting the server. For groups that regularly build complex vehicles, upgrading to our latest-generation CPU option can make a noticeable difference.

All server settings live in the server_config.xml file. You can edit this through the Configuration Files section in your LOW.MS control panel — no need to mess around with FTP or the File Manager. After saving your changes, restart the server for them to take effect.

Stormworks is available on PC through Steam only — there's no crossplay since there are no other platform versions. Everyone connecting to your server needs to own the game on Steam.
