The server config has a pause-when-empty setting that stops the world completely when the last player disconnects, and it is on by default, so a stock server does nothing overnight. We will ship our template with it turned off. Separately, a settlement only starts producing once a player has visited it since the world loaded, so after a server restart somebody needs to drop in on it. Do both and your villagers genuinely work on server time.
Yes. Necesse has an active modding scene with several hundred Workshop items, and mods are installed server side as well as by each player. We will support mod installation from the panel, and everyone connecting needs the same mod set, so keeping the server as the source of truth saves a lot of arguing.
Yes. A Necesse world is a save file, so a world you have been playing solo can be uploaded and continued on the server with your group. We will support world upload and save management from the panel.
The game itself will go far higher than most people expect, well into the hundreds on paper. Our plans are sized around what groups actually run, which is a handful of friends up to a decent sized community. If you are planning something unusually large, talk to us before you order and we will size it properly rather than guess.

Necesse is a top down survival sandbox that quietly does an enormous amount: procedural worlds, mining and crafting, settlement building with recruited villagers, bosses that gate progression, and a full co-op campaign. It reads like Terraria at a glance and plays more like a colony sim with a sword in your hand. Settlements are the reason to host it properly. Your villagers farm, mine and craft on server time rather than yours, so a world that stays online keeps producing between your sessions. Two things worth knowing before you buy on that promise, because most hosting pages skip them: the server has a setting that pauses the world entirely when nobody is connected, and it ships switched on, so we will ship our template with it disabled. And a settlement needs a player to have visited it since the world loaded before its workers pick up, which in practice means once after each restart.
