Windrose server hosting

Windrose uses invite codes instead of IP addresses. Your server generates a unique invite code on its first boot – you'll find it in the LOW.MS Control Panel via the Show Invite Code button. Share that code with your friends, and they enter it from the main menu under Play > Connect to Server. There's no server browser in Windrose, so the invite code is the only way to join.

Windrose supports up to 10 players in co-op. LOW.MS offers plans for 4, 6, 8, and 10 players. The developers recommend 4 players for optimal performance, especially in late-game areas with more complex encounters. All plans include 10 GB of RAM.

Windrose doesn't have official mod support or Steam Workshop integration, but an unofficial modding community exists on Nexus Mods. You can install .pak file mods by uploading them to the R5/Content/Paks/~mods/ folder via File Manager in the control panel. Keep in mind that most mods need to be installed on both the server and every player's game client to work properly.

Server settings are split across two JSON files. Basic settings like server name, password, and player cap are in R5/ServerDescription.json. Gameplay settings like combat difficulty, enemy scaling, and co-op modifiers are in WorldDescription.json inside your world's save folder. Always stop the server before editing either file – Windrose overwrites them on shutdown. You can edit these through Configuration Files or File Manager in the LOW.MS Control Panel.

Windrose is currently available on PC via Steam only. There are no console versions or crossplay features at this time. The game launched into Early Access on April 14, 2026, with a planned development period of 1.5 to 2.5 years before full release.

The most common cause is that the player hasn't completed the singleplayer tutorial. Windrose requires every player to finish the tutorial before multiplayer works – without it, connections silently fail. Other things to check: make sure the server has fully booted (the invite code won't appear until the first successful start), verify the invite code is entered exactly right (they're case-sensitive), and confirm both the game client and server are on the same version.

The Windrose dedicated server currently runs on Windows only. There is no official Linux dedicated server build at this time. LOW.MS handles the server infrastructure for you, so you don't need to worry about the operating system – just order a plan and your server is ready to go.
