The official minimum is 4 GB of RAM and Java 25. The server runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux (both x64 and arm64). 4 GB is fine for a small friend group on vanilla; for 10+ players or a moderate mod pack, plan for 8–12 GB.

Mods install on the server (drop them into the `mods/` folder and restart), and players receive them automatically from the server when they connect. There's no mod loader to install on the client side, no version-mismatch hunt, no manual downloads. CurseForge is the primary place to find mods.
Hytale uses UDP port 5520 by default, and runs on QUIC over UDP — there's no TCP component at all. On LOW.MS the port is configured for you automatically at provisioning. If you're self-hosting, you only need to open UDP 5520 in your firewall (and forward it through your router if you're behind a NAT).
Yes. You can copy your singleplayer world folder from `UserData\Saves\` (on the client) into `universe/worlds/` on the server, and optionally bring across your player data file too. Our migration guide in the knowledgebase walks through both the world transfer and the character transfer.
Hytale currently ships with two modes: Exploration (the survival experience — crafting, combat, resource gathering, and progression) and Creative (unlimited resources and free building). Both are available on dedicated servers, and you can switch a server between them without losing the world (though you'll want to take a backup first).
It depends on your RAM tier and whether you're running mods. A 4 GB server comfortably holds a small friend group of around 5–8 players on vanilla; 8–12 GB gets you to 10–15 players with room for light modding; 16 GB+ starts to make sense for a larger public server or a heavier mod pack. Set max players conservatively in config.json based on what your tier can handle.
